“Native forest like that at Ankafobe is now exceptionally rare on the Highlands” | The importance of the Ankafobe Forest is primarily due to the presence there of a large proportion of the world’s population of the tree Schizolaena tampoketsana (Sarcolaenaceae), locally known as Sohisika | The forest is also important because it contains a rich flora and fauna including a population of the brown lemur Eulemur fulvus.

ORGANISER VOTRE VISITE

As part of our efforts to increase the number of researchers working at “our” conservation sites we have developed a charter, presented below, that summarises how we will help researchers who decide to work at our sites

• We will help you organise appropriate local accommodation at a fair price

• We will help you to identify trustworthy and competent local assistants and advise you on a fair price for their services

• We will freely share our local knowledge with you and enable you to access baseline data concerning the site (such as climatic information, species lists, maps, phenology information, social information)

• We will provide you with an orientation session at the start of your study that is designed to help you to complete your study effectively and help you to minimise possible negative social and environmental impacts of your work

• We will introduce you to the local authorities and local leaders

• We will support your request to the Malagasy government for a research permit (however, we are unable to fill the role of a Malagasy partner organisation)

• If you require data to be collected after your departure, then we can help supervise this work and ensure that the information is sent to you in a timely fashion

• If you are ill or suffer from criminality, then we will help facilitate your interactions with the local health and security services
